They sure do love cookies!

Kids sure do love cookies! My grandkids, ages 4 1/2 and a bit over one sure do.  My little granddaughter had her first taste of cookie several weeks back. She is a bit of a finicky eater, especially when tasting something for the first time. Not so with the cookie! She loved it from the get go, going back to the counter, standing up on her toes with arms and fingers stretched trying to get another taste of that ooey gooey sweet stuff she so enjoyed. She wasn’t able to, so she began to point and make noises. She isn’t able to talk yet but her body movements and baby talk made it quite apparent that girl wanted cookies! She didn’t get anymore that evening. In the morning she had her plan of attack all laid out. She decided to try the standing on the toes pointing thing again, but added a new bit of ammo to her plan. She refused to eat anything else! Now she’ll usually eat her breakfast quite well, but not that morning. Nope, that girl was holding out for cookies! Mom won that battle!

Her second taste of cookies came at ahem…Grandmas house! Yes, that would be me! Grandma!  I’m a very busy working grandma who hasn’t done much in the line of baking for months and so, when I saw those delightful cookies they sell in the dairy case already sliced on a tray for baking with cute halloween ghosts imprinted in the cookie, I couldn’t resist. And so the grandkids were here and my grandson who by the way also totally loves cookies, set them onto the cookie sheet and we waited. Both children went over to peek in the glass window of the oven quite a few times in the ten minutes they take to bake. And then, the magic moment. The cookies were ready to eat! My grandson was allotted two cookies. He broke them up into about six pieces each to make them last longer and so it seemed to him he had a lot more than the two little cookies he was allowed to have. My granddaughter, the little blond haired cookie monster, was allotted one, which she gobbled up quite quickly and then proceeded to stand on her toes trying to reach for more. We know she’s just a baby, but really, she never gets treats, and so….we did it, we splurged and let the baby have yet another cookie! Oh joy!

To all the grandmas out there like myself who just can’t help but spoil the grandkids with cookies, take a look at these adorable designs from

Reminded Me of My Son-in-Law

Saw this shirt just now at Tee Wit Baby and couldn’t help but laugh. It totally reminded me of my son in law and little granddaughter. My son in law is often in charge of getting my one year old granddaughter dressed out of her jammies into her outfit of the moment (and I do mean moment because we  all know how many times a day a baby needs changing!) because my daughter is at school ie she’s a kindergarten teacher. I hate to say it but he has the worst sense of style when it comes to dressing a baby girl. She has gorgeous clothes as she’s been spoiled a bit and on top of that my daughter hits garage sales frequently and finds gorgeous name brand clothes that look like they’ve never been worn. Yet, she’ll come home from school to see the baby girl dressed in the most awfully put together outfits, colors that dont’ match up, things that just don’t go together, etc. So, this shirt is perfect for him! How easy is that, just grab this shirt, put it on, and you’re admitting to the fact you just cannot manage a baby girls wardrobe. This T-shirt is sure to get a few second looks and chuckles!

Future Teacher

As far back as I can remember, my daughter wanted to be a teacher. When she was a little girl she set up a library with her books in an old barn that sat in our backyard. She would play school with her friends and cousin, one of their favorite things to do. When my mom was in bed for several weeks with a bad back and back surgery my daughter played school with her, and of course, she was always the teacher. So it’s not surprising that upon graduating from high school she did indeed study to be a teacher. Today she teaches kindergarten. I don’t think that kindergarten was her first choice, but it’s what was open at the time of hire, and she has come to enjoy it alot. Tonight her daughter, my little one year old granddaughter, finger painted for the very first time. My daughter said she loved it! Active as she is, she spent 20 full minutes exploring the world of finger painting. I noticed she has always liked paper, books and the like, and wonder if she too will have the natural interest in being a teacher like her mommy. I saw this cute Future Teacher T-shirt at  TeeShirtsTShirts Awesome Tee Shirts and Gifts and think it’s just so cute for a teacher’s child or a child that shows an interest in being a teacher one day. Kids Love Birthdays!

Helpful Tips to a Successful Birthday Party

Kids birthdays don’t need to cost you a fortune to be successful. Here’s some simple tips to hosting a party that will leave all the guests smiling.

* Plan ahead! Don’t save all the decorating and errands for the day of the party. A happy host and hostess is essential for a successful party. Simplify when you can, ask friends and relatives for help with errands and decorating! Time. Parties don’t need to last three hours. Toddlers and young children tend to get tired from all the excitement so plan for the party to last a maximum of two hours, and not too late in the day when the little ones are tired. Children who are not tired tend to be happier.

* Budget. You need not spend next months wages on the birthday party. Toddlers and young children enjoy being with other children the most, so if you can’t afford the clowns or magic act, don’t fret. Your child and his friends will probably enjoy chasing soap bubbles just as much, and for a fraction of the cost.

* Take photos. In the excitement of it all, a parent can forget to take pictures! You’ll all love to look years later at the photos of the special day. Having a couple close friends or relatives take photos for you is a good idea if you are going to be busy cutting the cake, helping with opening the presents, etc.

* Games. Keep games simple and short. It’s best not to play games where the children need to share a blindfold as it can spread germs from one to the next. Having games that don’t require prizes is a good idea with young children as often times you’ll find they get upset if they don’t win a prize. Nothing can disrupt a party more than a child who is wailing over not having won a prize. A take home treat or treat bag for all is a great idea, but pass them out as the child is walking out the door so children don’t dump out the contents and you spend the rest of the party trying to find what they’ve lost.

*Age Appropriate. Keep the party theme, games, and food age appropriate. Remember to plan the party around your child’s likes and dislikes, not your own!
